Searching for a Catering Van
The next step after my Orientation call as a Franchisee is to start looking for a Catering Van.
I've bought new cars before, but never a used one - especially a pretty old truck.
Yesterday's bargain, a 1998 Ford EcoLine Van went for $2500 in Hayward. We were a couple of hours too late.
I wrestled with becoming a used van shopper yesterday and overnight. By this morning, when Trinity sent me the link for the 1991 Van for $1500, I was game to try. I made the phone calls, have secured the first option to buy the van when Al returns from his vacation to Hawaii (he is on the plane now).
Review of Training materials
I got familiar with the training website today and reviewed all the materials. I think I can determine the majority of the budget items from this info.....

Vision Quest: I a vision of poor service and disgust

So, with moving, comes finding your way around, new eateries, and especially, a new gym. I Googled some places, and unfortunately, the 2 closest gyms are 15 minutes away. Not too bad. Yesterday, I called to set up an appointment at Vision Quest to check it out. I read all 21 reviews and they all, unfortunately, were horrible 1 or 2 stars. Instead of basing my judgement of what others said, I decided to check it out for myself. I arrived a little early, 11:20, and when I walked in, I was greeted like a sheep in a den of wolves. How terrible. Immediately, I was not comfortable with these gross sweaty guys smiling at me, and the scantily clad hoochies giving me the stank eye. I get to the front and Valley Girl 1 told me to fill out all kinds of forms, blah blah, and the person who was supposed to be showing me around and giving me more information would be with me in a minute. After standing there looking like an idiot and getting undressed with nasty dudes eyes, Brad finally shows up at 11:44. I am one for promptness and punctuality, not tardiness. He proceeds to say, "Can we postpone this, I have to get some water." My snotty self responded, "I didn't drive over here for people to be late." He gets up, and comes back after a few minutes. I should've just walked away, but I didn't. Shame on me. So, Brad starts going over the forms I have filled out which are simple, have you worked out before, when was the last time you worked out, etc etc. Keep in mind, yesterday when we spoke on the phone I gave him a quick lowdown of my situation and today when we met, it was like he never talked to me.
As a professional, you typically look someone in the eyes when you speak to them. Brad on the other hand, had quite the wandering eye for any tale that came through that door and couldn't hold interest in speaking with me. I was thoroughly annoyed at this point. He kept asking me if it was just me joining, and I had to repeatedly mention my protective 6'6" football player boyfriend. Brad asked me what my level of dedication was because I had not been to the gym in a while. Well, I told you yesterday, I was involved in a bad car accident and I haven't been able to work out. He proceeded to say that I needed to lose weight and I needed to get my body fat down. Seriously!? Every conversation was regarding my weight and goals and money. He took some measurements, and made comments about how personal trainers would be the only way I could shed about 15 pounds.
I'm in the military, again- ME. He said, "a girl like you" when referencing working out on base. Again, my snotty self replied with, "well I am in the military, not my boyfriend, and I handle myself very well. Obviously you haven't been to the base gym to see the people who work out there." How dare you presume to refer to me as "a girl like you". How can that be construed BRAD?
Now for the nitty gritty, the prices. We sit down, excuse me, I sit down and he leaves again. Thinking about it now, I should have just left because at this point, all I could think about was how much of a DOUCHER this guy was. He tells me how it's $29 with no enrollment, only right this second. But for military, he will give me $29 and a week of classes. Not counting Mr J's enrollment or the extra $10/mo for limited childcare. But also, he would give me a new offer for $13 for Mr J, but he would have limited access. This doesn't include all of the fees and contract obligations and the $30 maintenance fee due up front. I told him how I really didn't want to join now, I just wanted to come and see what it was about. I asked him for a pass to try it out and he said NO. He claimed that if he gave out passes, the company would go bankrupt. I laughed inside, like, uh, you are the reason why this place will collapse. If I wanted a pass, it would be $25 a piece for 2 weeks. Ok, well hey jerk off, instead of pleasing the customer, go gawk at the nasties on the cardio equipment and leave me alone. He then tried to sell me on all these "incentives" and "packages" which, by my standards, are not enough to get me to join. After hassling him, he finally gave me a one week pass and said I would have to call him, he wouldn't call me to see how the trial was going. Karma will get me, but I told him thanks for wasting my time. Now I know why those reviews said how horrible the customer service was. ICK. Double ICK!
He reminded me of the boss from the movie 'Office Space.' "Um, yyyeeaaaahh." He said that with almost EVERY sentence. "um yeaaaah, I can't do that."

**Never would I EVER recommend going there!**After calling Mr J and ranting about how horribly vile this place was, I went to a different gym, Competitive Edge, to see what they were about. I walked in and the guy at the front, Mason, was so nice! He showed me around, no obligations, just for me to check the place out. Showed me the classes, childcare, and all the amenities. I immediately reverted back to the movie Dodgeball. Globogym vs Average Joe's.
I vote TEAM AVERAGE JOE's. After 15 minutes of debating back and forth to see what I should do, I walked back in and signed up. Mr J and I now have a new gym! Looking forward to it, WOOT WOOT.

Ok, so my hotel is booked, the tickets are being distributed, I've lost a few "el-bees" (lbs, pounds), now all that is left is hair and wardrobe! I have been overnighted all the rules, tickets, releases, and contestant information, and I am starting to freak out! I have enough anxiety as it is, so this just takes the cake!
I have scoured the internet left and right for a new 'do, and I have a few contenders.

Exhibit A: "The Kate." And when speaking of such Kate, I mean Beckinsale, not Middleton. My hair is about this long right now, and the color is nice. I like how it's seemingly one color with some natural face-framing highlights.Exhibit B: Ashley Greene. I had no idea who she was until someone said we looked alike and I had to Google her. Here, we have honey and caramel highlights all over. A nice way to bring in spring with a glowing color.Exhibit C: Hilary Duff. Ok, so I am not her biggest fan, no offense, but I really like her hair transformations. Unfortunately, her veneers were not as appreciated as much as her experimentation with hair color. I like how this is very natural looking with some highlights, with a mild ombre at the ends.
Well, here are the three I am looking at. My hair is very bland and almost mousey looking right now, with too much color and no cohesion. Definitely on the no no list--- BLONDE. I have been blonde for so long that I am not looking to go through that again.
Here's the current color and style. Boring much?
I know, I know, tanning is horrible for you. However-- !! -- The color "see through" has never looked good on HDTV! The burn has faded, and I am getting a smidgen of color, but I don't want to overdo it and look orange. Now for the cut... how do I cut it? Or should I? It's at that awkward stage where it's grown out, but not enough for any shape or style.
WARDROBE DILEMMA: Alright, so in the criteria, I am not allowed to wear small prints, stripes, white, red, or jeans. These tend to not look well under the lighting and the prints can distort on camera. Of course, first thing I think of is animal print or lace, haha, but those would not work out.
I found this dress, click HERE, to see it. I absolutely love it, but I also found these ideas.

Obviously, I love bright jewel tones. I can't wear any necklaces or rings-- don't want to lose a finger or decapitate myself! I just want to make sure I look cute and not trashy.
There you have it. The options. Eek! I am getting so nervous! WISH ME LUCK LOVIES!
This morning I woke up with the most horrendous dry mouth-ICK! Apparently, I couldn't breathe properly during the wee hours of the night, hence the waking up all the time to the "paste" sensation in my mouth. I was hoping it was allergies, but I took a hot shower with steam and no relief. After taking 3 allergy pills, I am coming to the belief that maybe I have a cold! OH BLAST! Can't be all nasally for my appearance! Normally, we go have Sunday dinner at Mr J's parents, but I planned on seeing my family this evening. I haven't seen my dad in who knows how long! He travels way too much and in my opinion, deserves much better. Unfortunately, I had to skip out on both. Misery does not love company. At all.
So, now for the good stuff. HDtv and Blu-Ray. I am dreading my appearance on national television in high definition, however, I am watching my favorite movie on this gorgeous TV. Titanic. Yes, the 1997 classic. For those of you who don't know, I am a giant Titanic NERD and have always been intrigued by the ship since I was like, 2. If I believed in reincarnation, I would definitely say I was on that ship. It's awesome in HD Blu-Ray. And yes, I will be seeing it in theaters again when it re-releases. IN 3D! (EXCITED FACE!!)
Well, I am going to finish watching my movie and blow my nose raw. Hopefully everyone enjoyed their weekend. Supposedly I am to go back to work next week, but that is another story. All I can say is, boo, hiss--unfair! Speak at you all later. Sorry for the lack of postings lately. Moving has been busy, plus there hasn't been a whole lot going on to write about.
One more thing, keep your fingers crossed PLEASE that I get the open Medical Technician job I applied for at MAMC. This weekend was all about finding work, so hopefully one of the many I have applied for will pan out!
Any suggestions for hair and wardrobe would be great! Comment below! THANKS!

Yesterday was THE day! Mr J and I drove down to Portland to the Oregon Convention Center for my taping. I participated in 'The Great Outdoors Week,' which will air 21-25 May.
Tuesday started out early, and I arrived at the Convention Center at 0700. I woke up after a toss and turn kind of night at 0400 filled with excitement to the brim. I was more nervous about what I looked like than the game... typical pageant girl. The morning was full of energy and rehearsal, paperwork, and meeting some cool people. I was the youngest one there, but the one with the most stage experience. I found out the day that out of the 2800+ people who auditioned in Seattle, I was 1 of only 2 who were chosen! Quite the accomplishment!
The rules were very strict, and there were no cameras allowed, no phones, no texting, no reading materials..in other words, boring! Actually, it was kind of neat to learn about other people and their families, jobs, dreams, etc etc. I have been on movie sets before, but seeing the inner workings of a show that's been on for 29 seasons was an incredible orchestration. There were maybe about 15 of us there, coming from all walks of life, waiting for our chance at the opportunity of a lifetime! We all picked randomly our tapings and positions, and I was the second episode of the day, first position. They filmed all 5 episodes for the week in one day.
Here is the set---> It was cool to see it, and it is way smaller in person than what it looks like on TV. I've been asked this a hundred times, and YES, the wheel is SO HEAVY. We did a few practice turns and it was hard to get in good spins. We were told where to look, smile, clap low, don't make too much noise, but act excited! All in all, it really was a fabulous time. My mom, Aunt E, Mr J, and my friend Janae were in the audience. Unfortunately, Daddy couldn't make it, but he was there in spirit- saying WHHHeel! (emphasis on the WH.)
Both Pat and Vanna were definitely looking older, but Pat was very nice during the game, and Vanna said hello to me. No autographs, no pictures, no nothin! Boo. :(
My specific air date is 22 May on your local Wheel channel. Be sure to watch me! Yes, I am a sore loser, but can you really "lose" at Wheel of Fortune? Doubtful. But again, I am a sore loser.
In other news, I went to a job fair on base last Friday. After terrible desperation, I finally broke down and went. After passing out resumes and trying to network, I got one call back. Today, I interviewed with not just one, but two of the hiring managers for this property management company. Tomorrow, I have a third and final interview. Please wish me luck as I continue on this endeavor.
Hopefully things continue to look up. I am just waiting for this episode to air so someone sees it and begs to hire me for some work! The decision has been made that I am going to attempt to get representation and lose some weight and get back into the show biz industry. It's what I am good at and comfortable with, so I may as well use my talents, right!?
Ok, well I am off to sulk some more and log onto Pinterest, dreaming about rugged decorations and fabulous treats. Enjoy your evening all. Be sure to watch me on TV!
Peace. Love. and Gooey Cinnamon Sticky Buns.

Well hello friends, family and visitors!
I haven't really written a new blog since my pity party after Wheel of Fortune. Well, good news. I am no longer pouting and I am out of my hermit shell. Since Wheel, not much has really gone on. PSYCHE! Everyday is a new journey, duh! How freaky deaky is this, so most every day, Mr J sends me my horoscope. Typically I read them and think, "hmm, oh Leo..." But recently, the best 'scopes have been sent. A few days ago, Mr J sent me one saying something like, "Leo, you are worried about finances and blah blah blah, just wait, something good is coming. When the opportunity arises, take it." I shrugged it off, thinking maybe my Wheel check will show up 5 months early, or I will win some lottery. Around 8:30p, I get a text from my Aunt Ellen. She sends me this link to a job post and asks me to read it and see if it's something I would like and not to worry because she had connections. I read it and show Mr J and he agreed, it's the perfect job for me. I text back, long story short-- Sign me up. Tuesday rolls around and I meet up for comida with AE (Aunt Ellen) and we catch up, shoot the breeze, and discuss the fab opportunity. Oh, hello! It's my cousin's company, and I get to go work for him! How exciting! Him and I met over coffee, I know, it's sooo Seattle... and he said the job is there if I want it. Sold, I am there!
Today is the day I am putting in my 2 week notice at my job. I think to myself, although they have not been the nicest people to me, and it's definitely not been the most pleasant place to be employed, I professionally owe them 2 weeks. Who knows what will happen, they could just let me go here and now, which I am hoping they do, or they could keep me on for the remainder of my employment. Either way, SAYONARA!
---UPDATE---
I left for therapy midway through finishing this blog, and I got a lot accomplished while I was out. After massage therapy, I went down to T-Town to put in my resignation. I wanted to keep it formal and quiet without a huge hullabaloo. The girl in HR is so nice, and I filled out the proper paperwork, put in my last date of work, and that was that. I am a free woman! It's rather sad how miserable people are there. The company, whom shall remain anonymous but I am sure everyone knows where it is, was not the best place, as aforementioned, but the opportunity I have been given is much greater than working on-call with no schedule. Instead of my fridge calendar looking a muck, I have consistent hours, consistent schedule, and a steady income. What a sigh of relief.
Well, let's see, what else has been going on?
The air date for Wheel has officially changed. The episode I participated in will air 23 MAY instead. Stay tuned and watch it!
My parents came over for a fabulous meal! I made my famous turkey burgers with fiesta ranch, and might I say, they were fabulous. We got to showcase our awesome 3D TV, and my dad was watching Deadliest Catch and was acting like a kid. haha it was so awesome to see him get to excited! He told us about what he used to do for DEA and when he worked in Alaska and Florida and it was so cool to hear those stories. I am almost 25 years old and haven't heard stories like that, so it was cool! Also, PLEASE look for this man's mug on the side of Gordon Trucking trailers in the Western US! He tends to be very modest and doesn't want people to know these things, but now I have officially put him and his accomplishments on blast. WAY TO GO DADDY!
Let's see... what else...
Mr J took me to the tulip festival as well. It was so lame for him, but A+ for his efforts to do something totally lame for me! I loved the colors and the assortment, but I must stand on my soap box for just a moment. Mr J and I are walking through the fields and fields of tulips, and I am taking pictures, doing my thing. Well, I wanted a picture of both of us with the tulips as the background... sigh. I asked a man to take our picture, keep in mind, we have taken pictures for other people, and he says NO, NO NO and shakes his head and walks away. Um, what? After numerous expletives pouring out of our mouths like vomit, we left. It really put a huge damper on the day. Everyone was just very rude and unmindful and it really soured me. Luckily, we could laugh about it later on through the day.

The photos are uploaded and updated in the SONY SHOTS page of my blog!
That is what has been going on. Stay tuned, I will be sure to write some fabulous things more often when I get back into to groove of things! See you later!

But recently, the best 'scopes have been sent.

He's very "google-able" |

First things first, my great friend Michelle has posted the nicest blog about me. I started to tear up, it was so nice and meant so much to me! She has been such a great support system for me. Dammit Michelle, why must you live so far away!? We became friends through a military trip to San Antonio. There are just people in your life who stick with you, and that is her. Talk about a truly great person- that is Michelle. Love her!
See her blog HERE and divulge in her fabulousness please! (Role model Alert!)
So, ok it is Saturday and tomorrow is Easter.
Tomorrow instead of going to Mr J's house with his family, I am partaking in my own family festivities and we are heading North to some fancy joint for a late lunch.
I have been back to work for 2 days now. Yesterday went well, and all I have been doing is ringing up orders for Estee Lauder and their upcoming gift with purchase. Unfortunately, I am too high speed for them and finished a 4 day job.. in one. I guess I just question the IQ of the majority of the employees because this task was quite simple, why was it supposed to take 4 days? Oh well, I can't complain. I am getting paid to do a whole lot of nothing. Not bad after 4 months of no paychecks, right?
Well, today was day 2 of the beginning of my on-call position. It went well, but I had nothing to do. I sat around not able to sell anything because I was not approved to...cough. Really..?
Anyway, so I organized and alphabetized products and emailed customers and I still was done too early. I left at over an hour and a half early because seriously, there was not a thing left for me to do. Again, high speed.
While I was hunched over on my stool deciphering between "Pinkberry" and "Crystal Pink" lip glosses, I made a few logical decisions. So, ok, Mom- sorry you are going to be really mad, but this is how it's going to work. I have talked with Mr J numerous times about going Active Duty. I have always wanted to go, but only as an Officer. That was my original plan, but life happens and it doesn't look like that will happen. We have discussed the ups and downs of it and this is the low down. Since I am only a Reservist, I have been struggling with Civilian work so much. I have applied for countless positions, and although it is illegal, I have been discriminated against in the most appalling ways. Mr J has been opposed to it, especially after he fell in love with me, *sigh*, and doesn't want me to go anywhere. However, he knows it is what I love and what I really want. Today, he has agreed and knows that this is where my heart is. Again, sorry Mom.
I have decided to discuss my options with a recruiter to go Active Duty and really get my goals started. I will finish school, stop looking for desperate "jobs", and I will become a pilot like I have always wanted. But, I will not become a helicopter pilot or a C-17 pilot, I am going for my dream to be a Fighter Pilot.
This is what I have dreamed of for I can't tell you how many years. I remember asking my Daddy when I was probably 12 or 13 what I needed to do to be in the military. All I remember i him saying to me, "run and be prepared." Ha- that was so long ago!
Speaking of pops, I found all of my letters from boot camp! Some could be burned, ha, but some are the greatest. I got a letter almost every day from Nana (thanks!!), and I got a lot from my parents, even one labeled, "Kayla Poop Face" from my little sister. Thanks Turd. Well, I found this card from my dad, and for those of you who don't know, my dad is my hero. I look up to him and all the crap he has overcame, and I still can't believe it. The card was so special to me, and I remember that it was the second time I cried in boot camp. (The first was that wretched first phone call!) Re-reading it he wrote how proud he was of me for following my dreams. So, why the heck am I sitting here on a stool alphabetizing lip gloss and foundation? I am so much better than that.
Once I got home and made myself a fabulous cocktail, I discussed my future plans with Mr J and he agreed. He tried to change the notion of me wanting to go Active since we met, but he knows my heart is in it and he won't take that away from me. Thank you for that..
So, my plan is to go Active and stay here at my current duty station and get 100% of my education funded. Sorry it has taken me so long to get my act together, but I think after 24 long years and one traumatic accident, I am FINALLY on the right path.
Once I am completed with my Bachelor's Degree, I am going to transfer to the Navy and become a fighter pilot. (Or become a Blue Angel!)
I feel like although I may be letting some people down who want to break my shins to keep me on US soil *MOM* cough-- this is my heart and my dream, and I am going to stop making excuses and just go for it.
I guess I really am not looking so much for other people's approval anymore, and it is time to do what I really want to do, even though it may not be what other people want for me.

Happy Easter to everyone, I wish nothing but happiness. Take care of yourselves first and those close to you next.
Hope we can all be together again soon.

Locks and a Boathouse
To contact us Click HERE
Well hello all and a big howdy to all my new visitors from Michelle's site! Such a nice surprise!
Today I went with my family to Ray's Boathouse in Ballard. My Dad had made reservations for us, and myself along with my mom and one sister enjoyed an amazing lunch on the water. Not to mention, the day was incredible! The sun was shining, the mountains were out, people were happy, and it was nice and warm! I am constantly griping about the nasty weather here in WA. It's nothing like California..home sweet home...
We arrived to Ray's and had mimosas, a fruit plate, and individual entrees that were just to die for. The 3 course brunch was phenomenal. I had the Brioche French Toast, my mom had the Alaskan King Salmon, my sister had the Filet Mignon, and daddy had the Seattle Scramble. After admiring the view and boasting about just how awesome the day was and how it was so weird that we were together, minus my older sister, without significant others.

Once we finished and took some pictures, we ventured over to the Ballard Locks. It is basically a ship canal that connects boaters from Lake Union to Lake Washington. I have never seen a ship canal before and how it worked, but the engineering behind it is incredible. The way the water levels were evened out was super cool and how the water was pumped so quickly to raise these yachts and tugs was just neat. Yeah, I know- gear head. What can I say, I got my dad's genes.

I took some new pictures. It's been a while since I have left my cocoon of boringness and took some new stuff. Enjoy :) Click HERE to see all of them!

Wheel Hair 911...the fix!
To contact us Click HERE
So a few posts ago, I as looking to find a new hair color for my appearance on Wheel. I went and got my hair colored like #3, Ashley Greene. The hairdresser, as nice as she was, totally made it look like doody. She did a pretty red on the underneath, but the top looked like a sunset. My roots looked orange and then the ends faded to an orangey-red. In other words, it looked HORRIBLE when it was up, and I wear my hair up.. a lot.
The day before Wheel, I finally called the hair lady back and expressed to her I still was unsatisfied and it looked bad and I needed it to be toned or something needed to happen. The front desk gal couldn't get a hold of my original lady, so I ended up going and buying a box color. OMG- SIN! I am still ashamed at myself. I could've gone down to Sally Beauty Supply and gotten some professional color, but I was on a tight schedule! This is the ugliness I ended up with. I was probably ten shades darker too on TV! It looked good, but spray tans fade into diseased looking skin. haha.
So yeah. I had a few people asking what I decided to do. Here it is!

Don't forget to watch Wheel of Fortune 22 May to see meeeeee!

My Pinterest Obsession

Ever since I learned about Pinterest, I have been addicted. I have the app, the file of saved ideas, categorized mind you, and the definite addiction. I have learned some cool tips and tricks for tricky stain removal, DIY projects, and hundreds of shoes and outfits I won't be able to afford in the near future. When I was first off work, I spent probably 3 hours on Pinterest a day... pathetic! But it's so addicting! My obsession is slowly subsiding and the time I spend isn't anywhere close to 3 hours now, but I must confess, I am on my app while on break at work! If you haven't checked it out, please do.
Here are some of my favorite Hair pins:
How funny, I am not blonde, but seeing these waves and braids make me want to go back blonde!I love love the braid and waves trend!
Here are some of my other favorite pins!
I can't imagine how I survived boredom without Pinterest before. I love it, love the ideas, love the fashions, love the quotes.. It's so fun to dream!

Week one, Done.

Well howdy there. Today marks the completion of my first week at my new job. I thankfully left my former employer and started working as an Affiliate Manager at a Software Development company. It sounds so fancy and technical. Definitely much more sophisticated than "retail." The week has gone very well, and I have a lot to learn. The only kind of, poop part, is the commute. It's very hit and miss, but I am starting to learn which ways to go and which ways to avoid.
Other than the traffic, I am so excited to get my hands in everything and learn it all. I have been doing some simple administrative things right now and organizing clients, and then next week I will start getting into contracts and learning more! :)
Tomorrow I head off to McChord for my military duties. It'll be my first time back since January. I am excited to go back and from what I am told, I will be moving sections and I will be in Deployment Readiness. Yay!
It's really incredible how things can change so fast. If someone had told me a few years ago that by the time I was 23 I would be dating someone with a kid and I would be settled down I would have laughed. I am a self-proclaimed gypsy, and I like to move around and do different things and see new places. But look at me now. Unbelievable!
The new house is going well. There are some things that I really would like to get, and here they are!

I would LOVE this bedroom set. Right now, we don't have anything that matches, no headboard, and pretty much-- the room lacks character and comfort. Once I have some more money saved up, this is the first thing I want to get. I love the upholstered headboard and the low foot board. It just looks so cozy and inviting. Way better than what we have goin on now...

Right now, in the spare bedroom, there is a bed and dresser only. With my new job, I would like to double the space and utilize some of it as an office. Pottery Barn is my weakness, but I am sure I can find something comparable for a lesser price. Plus, it would just be nice to have somewhere to keep the printer and keep all the mail and bills organized. Si.

So, we decided to keep my couches, but I think we both agree this would be better. There is more seating room, and its totally cozy looking. Right now, my couches are that light tan microfiber with brown leather, and with a 3 year old and a black Lab, the couches are subject to destruction. Luckily, the living room of the new place is huge, and this would fit nicely in the space. This would be perfect for our Wheel watching party!...Maybe I will have to switch the bedroom set with this couch and get the couch first...hmmm
They are definitely large purchases, so nothing will happen right away, but I am glad now that these options are feasible and attainable.
Let's see, what else is going on? Not a whole bunch. Work is keeping me busy, and I am thinking about trying to go to school. I think just taking one class for now, online, and then my last class is the way to do it. It'll make things even more busy, but I know this is what I need to do to finish out my AA. Pathetic, I know, I should be finished with my Bachelor's, but sometimes life just gets in the way.
My best friend, Cameron, is having a baby girl :)
She is due today, but if she doesn't come, then Cam will be induced on Monday! I am so excited to be an auntie again. I just wish I could be down in CA to be with her through this.
The best, and potentially worst, part of working in West Seattle is the food and shops. There are 2 cupcakeries by me and tons of fabulous food. I just have to keep my sweet tooth at bay best I can!
Well, I hope that everyone enjoys their weekend ahead and has a nice time with friends and family. Back to work I go!
xo

Hello and good morning all.
After a break from blogging, some drama, a new car, and Wheel coming up, things have been very busy.
Work is going very well. I am learning a ton and boosting my industry lingo to the max. The biggest poo factor of it all is the commute, but I have learned which way to go and what time I have to leave by to avoid the brunt of it all. It makes for long days, but it's nice having a set schedule and weekends again! Luckily, the weekends have been fairly nice here the past couple of weeks, so it's been nice spending time in the sunshine.
Leaving my old job at a giant retailer has made life a lot less stressful. I know how much I will get paid, when I will work, and I am able to troubleshoot and solve problems, work with people, and actually learn new things every day.
With my new job, I was able to purchase a new vehicle! I got rid of the Jeep, which come to find out, had been in a major accident where the airbags had deployed prior to me buying it. I was so angry! But they paid off the Jeep and I got this beautiful beast. A BMW 550I. She's got all the bells and whistles, super comfortable, spacious, and super fast. Of course, I am a freak when it comes to fuel consumption, so I take it nice and easy majority of the time! Unfortunately, I know this baby will be let loose when I leave for Texas in a few weeks...Eek! In other news, my episode of Wheel of Fortune airs TOMORROW NIGHT!
Watch the episode to see how bad, or good, I did! It's flattering to see my mug as the main picture for the contestant videos. ha! Click HERE to check out the contestant videos! We had to do a few takes when it came to this. I had no idea what to even say when they asked me these questions. My biggest fear is looking fat... which in some pictures, I do! But I don't sound half as dumb as I thought I would! Tomorrow night I have been forced into watching the episode with family and friends. How embarrassing! It was such a fun experience. If you read my previous blog, you will notice I was upset at my performance, but now that I think about it, I had a good time. Hopefully I will get a sweet TV gig out of it..haha. Wishful thinking! (Sorry AE!)I have this silly humor that I read every day to keep me from going insane, and this is my funny for the day :)
I love Robert Downey Jr. This picture makes me laugh. Almost a 'lol'. Maybe even a 'rofl'. Well, I am done now. Watch Wheel and stay classy.

San Antonio- STARS dia uno

Hello hello. I am off for another adventure!
I left for HOT Texas yesterday, and it was not sad kissing the gray and rain away. I traded in my rain boots for combat boots and I am back in action.
The airport started out hectic and crazy, and it took me over an HOUR just to get my bags checked. For all the kiosks open at the counter, they only had one attendant working. You really don't understand how rude society has become until you are next to people at the airport. I started to get mad because there was a girl by me with her mom and boyfriend and her mom was SO annoying. Then, the chick demands she get something for free because she is in the Navy. I snuck a peek at her ID, and she is an E-2. She has yet to put in the time to be demanding ANYTHING! Once I finally got my luggage squared away. I was able to pass up security and go into a new TSA screening line. It's called Pre-TSA. If you haven't heard of it, you should Google it. Once I passed by everyone, including that Navy girl, it was smooth sailing.
I finally broke down and bought "Fifty Shades of Grey" because I have heard nothing but awesomeness about it. I am about 100 pages into it and it is quite the interesting story. ----> here is Rainier. A totally awesome view. All the mountains were out, so I got to see Helens, Baker, Hood, and Rainier unobstructed. It was so pretty! It's funny how chastised you get for pulling out your phone on a plane to take a picture. I now know how Alec Baldwin felt while playing Words with Friends!
Next stop, San Antonio! After a brief layover in Houston, my friend and travel companion Jenn and I jetted off south, back to Lackland. I came here a few years ago, and I was down this way last October in preps for my deployment, but it was not nearly as warm as it is now!
Being back here brings back so many memories. It's fun to watch the kids going through boot camp. It brings me back to it all over again. I may or may not have mentioned it before, but I really loved boot camp. It was a fun experience. Granted, it sucked for the most part because you are sleep deprived, hungry, and hot, but I made some incredible memories and some met a lot of great people. When I went to boot camp it was March until June, so this heat was in full swing when I was here before too!
Moving along...I love the weather here. I am a wet heat kind of person. I enjoy dry heat as well, but I like humidity. Today was the first day of class. I am participating in STARS, formerly known as TOP STARS. This course is designed to refresh training, learn new tactics, and develop further into our career fields. I am one of the lowest ranking individuals in the class, which is ok, but it sure is intimidating! Hopefully, I can put on rank by the end of this year. I feel like I have been an E-4 forever! Today, we went over Enroute care, SABC (Self Aid Buddy Care), and Medication Administration.
In the Enroute Care section, we learned about different aircraft and the differences between space available for litters and patients on KC-130 and C-17's. We also learned our 9-line MedEvac requests, different staging facilities, and the differences between urgent, priority, and convenience patients.
The SABC section was my favorite. I am in charge of the Self Aid Buddy Care of my unit, so it was neat to take some bits and pieces from the different teachings and techniques used by the instructor. In this class, we learned about the iFAK, also known as the 'individual first aid kit.' These are kits with pertinent components to ensure you have basic supplies to help you, or your comrades, in case of emergency. This is by far my favorite area or medical care because it keeps you on your toes. When you are out in the middle of nowhere taking on fire and someone gets hurt, you don't really have a whole lot of supplies readily available. It's all about improvising now. Filling boots with sand and stabilizing a neck, using a belt as a tourniquet, even using your uniform and sticks to create splints for broken limbs.
I love it!
Oh yeah, this is hoopty <-- our sweet ass Nissan Versa. Complete with manual door locks and hand crank windows. Woot!
Medication Administration has never been my strong point, and I never claim to it being either! We briefly touched on pharmacological calculations, but it can get so confusing, especially when you have to calculate the amount of drips you need per hour using a certain medication that is a certain size, but you have to convert it to another measurement. Luckily, I was able to understand it pretty well once I did a few problems, but let's just say I will not be majoring in Computational Pharmacology.
This evening served to be quite the adventure! After relaxing a little and doing our homework, Jenn and I decided to go find something to eat for dinner. I have to admit, Urban Spoon really let me down on this one! Normally, I hit 'nearby' and a ton of awesome restaurants pop up. Not this time. We spent literally an HOUR driving around San Antonio looking for something to eat. Sadly, we ended up back on base... eating pizza at the BX. What a shame. It was delicious and filling, but an hour... oy.
Well, from what I gather, the class is going to be pretty fun. The weather is great, an I am with a good friend.
Well, I hope I haven't bored you all with my rambling.
See you soon!

Skull Fractures and Stenosis. Days 2 & 3
To contact us Click HERE
Welcome to days 2 and 3. Yesterday seemed like the day was cut short, so I apologize I didn't update you on my day! Yesterday, I had two labs I attended for 4 hours each! The first lab I was in was Trauma Care. This class was full of all kinds of new techniques, but also full over things I already knew. We learned about burns and how to calculate morality rate of burn patients. Also, we learned about suction VACs. These create negative pressure to stimulate granulation to help the wound heal from the inside, out. In this lab, we also studied TBIs and concussions. Research has improved greatly, and we are now able to make 3D models of the skull for military members who have head trauma. It's super cool.
The rest of the day we went to the Essentials lab. Here we went over medical and trauma assessments, how to triage patients properly, applying splints, bivalve, and removing casts, external fixators and pin care, and sutures and minor lacerations. ---> These are piggy feet. They are soaked in mouth wash so they don't smell bad, that's why they are blue FYI. I learned how to suture when I worked at Madigan with the Army. It has been so long since I have sutured anything, but it was so cool to be the only one in the class who has performed live sutures on patients! I am in a class of 2 Majors, 1 Colonel, and 1 Senior. It was pretty flattering when I was asked to demonstrate and teach everyone my technique! My group is pretty cool. We have all become good classmates and have a lot of fun with each other.
That was the end of the first full day of training. Today, Wednesday, is my mom's birthday. HAPPY BIRTHDAY MA! Ok, so besides that, I had 2 great classes. First off this morning, we were greeted in the IV Lab by the nicest nurse ever! She is a Lt Col, and has been a nurse for over 17 years. She was super fun and I think I learned the most from her so far this whole trip. We touched briefly on calculating, preparing, and administering medications, initiating and regulating, monitoring, and discontinuing peripheral intravenous therapy. I learned about IO's, which I had no idea what it was. Basically, if you are in a life or death situation and you need to get fluids in the patient ASAP, you can drill an IO and administer fluids that way. After that class, we had lunch and Jenn and I stayed behind to watch this movie called "Taking Chances." It's got Kevin Bacon in it, and it's super sad, but it's actually a pretty decent flick. After lunch, I attended the Cardiac class. We learned the stresses of flight, like G-Force, barometric pressure, and fatigue. It got so confusing though, listening to different sounds and determining what the problem could be. I learned about Myocardial Infarctions, Ventricular Septal Defect, systolic heart failure, and pulmonary stenosis. Just trying to read the different heart rhythms got me all kinds of confused. Overall, it has been a great class and I am so glad I am here! I love learning about this stuff and just refreshing on everything. I must admit, the heat is awesome and I miss the humidity here, I love hearing the planes fly around and the sounds of the engines. So lame, I know, but I love it! Here is a funny video for everyone :)
Have a great night, happy birthday mom!

I don't care who likes Leatha's BBQ, that place is no good. I'll stand by that till the day I die.
